Cleanest Water A Bird Can Get

Installation of Birdbath

1. The Self Cleaning Birdbath is easy to install using 3 landscape blocks. The 3 blocks are from Home Depot, and are just the right height (4") to leave room underneath for the sprinkler, 90 degree angle, and adapter.

2. Blocks are arranged as a triangle with a gap for the hose.

4. The next picture shows the parts included with the birdbath, the sprinkler head, 2 O rings, the brass converter nozzle, the 90 degree angle pipe fitting, and the hose to pipe thread adapter.

5. The next picture shows the hose adapter, 90 degree angle, and sprinkler head all screwed together and on the hose. Just gently hand tighten only enough to prevent leaks. Prop up the sprinkler assembly in the center as shown.

6. The next picture shows birdbath set down over the sprinkler head.

7. The next picture shows the sprinkler head pulled up and the 2 O rings in place. The bottom one is about half way down the sprinkler head and the top one is about 1/4" below the joint where the sprinkler head rotates.

8. The next picture shows the nozzle added, nozzle slot straight down and the screw tightened to hold it in place, if not the water pressure will blow the nozzle out and you will be hunting it in the grass. Rotate the top of the sprinkler head back and forth, it should be set for full 360 degrees of rotation, and leave it at the point of reversing. Now rotate the sprinkler body so the reversal of direction occurs over the dam, just tighten the body of the sprinkler some more to the correct position or rotate the bowl if the sprinkler is too tight.

9. The next picture shows the sprinkler head pushed down into the 1" pvc fitting in the birdbath, the bottom ring should bottom out at the pipe stop in the center of the fitting and pushing the sprinkler down will be stiff. Push down until the rotating joint is just about level with the top of the birdbath, then push the top O ring down into the birdbath. Be sure the top O ring is below the rotating joint in the sprinkler head.

11. The next picture shows side view of water jet as the sprinkler head rotates slowly around. When the birdbath is clean, turn the water off slowly pausing to let the birdbath fill up, then turn the water off.

You are done. If you want it to run automatically, then continue and install the water timer kit.

12. The next picture shows the automatic hose water timer, it comes with 2 valves so the first valve is unrestricted flow and valve 2 is on the end with a flow adjustment knob. The flow adjustment knob is set to restrict the flow so the water will not blow out over the side, but fills up until the timer cuts off, by which time the bowl is overflowing.

13. The next picture shows the Y hose that joins the outputs of the valves together and into a regular hose to the self cleaning birdbath. Ours is set for 3 minutes on high (valve 1) and 2 minutes on low (valve 2). Depending on how much business your birdbath does you may need to run it more than once a day. We have had one version or other out for years now and we have a huge following of birds and squirrels. When times are dry our bowl can be seen nearly empty when we are running it 3 times a day! Please ignore the extra hose for other uses.
